About Tom Vierus

Tom is a conservation/wildlife photojournalist, filmmaker, marine biologist, cinematographer, video editor, and author.

Originally from Germany, Tom has travelled to over 42 countries. He lived in South Africa, where he finished high school, spent a year deepening his dive training in Egypt, and has been living and working in Fiji for over six years. The South Pacific is also where he is based throughout most of the year.

Tom is a member of the International League of Conservation Photographers and the Ocean Artists Society and was named ‘German Science Photographer of the Year’ in 2016. His films were screened at more than a dozen film festivals, including four times at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022).

In 2020, he founded Pacific Media House, a visual production company covering film and photography in all three dimensions. His clients include the largest organisations in the world, including the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and many others.

Tom’s photographs and videos are represented by the Nature Picture Library and the International League of Conservation Photographers. Tom also actively contributes to scientific literature and has published several peer-reviewed papers on wildlife in Fiji.

In 2024, on assignment in Papua New Guinea, Tom captured the first-ever photograph of the New Britain Goshawk, a rare bird that hadn’t been sighted for over 55 years.

The first photo ever.

In 2024, while on assignment for WWF-Pacific in Papua New Guinea, Tom made history with one of his photos. For the first time ever, he photographed the New Britain Goshawk, a rare bird that was on the “Lost Species” list. This great conservation news went viral and where shared by dozens of news outlets across the world, garnering hundreds of millions of social media impressions.
